What is mentoring?

A little something about a mentee

The mentor program is a community-based approach to match youth to a positive and supportive adult role model.  It truly does take a village to develop a well-adjusted youth.  With a mentor, a mentee receives the benefits of an additional role model to his/her support system.  With an increased level of support, a youth can reach his/her fullest potential.

Below are goals for the mentee but are not limited to:

  • Receive positive attention from an adult (sometimes having someone to just listen can do wonders for developing youth)

  • Increase social skills

  • Participate in the community as a respectful citizen

  • increase self-esteem

  • Enhance attitude about school

  • Learn valuable skills to succeed

  • Explore various interests and hobbies

  • Maintain or increase the ability to resist alcohol, drugs, or tobacco

The relationship between mentors, mentees, and families is composed of open communication.  Families will be made aware of where and what their child will participate in.

The mentor program is designed to be inclusive of all youth (K-12) in the Clayton Ridge School District communities who would like to participate.

Become A Mentor

Do you have 3 hours per month for 1 year to make a difference in a child's life?  Every child needs adults in his/her life to succeed.  With the right supports, a child can flourish into adulthood with a healthy outlook on life.

What can you do as a mentor?  The possibilities are almost endless!  While you are encouraged to be as creative as you like, we will also sponsor activities for you and your mentee to attend.  From bowling to hiking to fishing to games, you and your mentee can spend quality together.

Mentor for a day

If you feel that 3 hours per month is too much of a commitment right now, you can still be involved!  You can choose to be a "Mentor for a Day."  The Mentor for a Day can assist with a day activity that might last a few hours.  These mentors get a chance to interact with youth while they participate in learning new skills and being exposed to new opportunities.
